Turkish Airport Traffic Rises 2.6% to 138.8M Passengers

Commercial aviation across Türkiye registered 138.8 million travelers through the first seven months of 2026, reflecting a 2.6% uptick compared to the identical period in 2025. International fliers drove the expansion, representing approximately 78.2 million journeys, while domestic routes accounted for 60.5 million passengers. Peak summer velocity was evident in July alone, which logged nearly 26.8 million passengers alongside 527,744 tonnes of cargo.

Freight throughput over the seven-month span reached roughly 3.03 million tonnes nationwide. Istanbul Airport retained its status as the primary gateway, welcoming 48.1 million travelers—approximately 38 million of whom flew on international services. On the city's Asian side, Sabiha Gökçen Airport processed 28 million passengers over the same timeline.

Terminals dedicated to leisure and resort destinations generated 32.2 million passenger movements, highlighting aviation's foundational role in tourism-dependent coastal economies. Antalya Airport led the recreational sector with 19.2 million passengers, followed by İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport at 7.4 million travelers.
